CMY MINERAL COLLECTION
                              LARRY RUSH
MY BACKGROUND
When I was in college (Geology major, Rutgers U.) mineralogy was my favorite subject. So it was easy for me, after I moved to Connecticut, to join a local mineral club and start investigating the  collecting possiblilites that this state had to offer.

And there were many, from pegmatites to basalt quarries, and sedimentary  shales to metamorphic outcrops and ledges. There were at that time scores of deserted mines, prospects and quarries that were open and available to explore. And just beyond, in the other New England states and in Canada, there were countless other mineralized areas to choose from.

So, for the next fifty years, I dug, alone or with club members or friends, or with my family on many vacations. And I accumulated tons of rocks and minerals, many of poor quality but also many fine specimens, from "Herkimer Diamonds" to Otter Lake Apatite crystals, to blue and green Beryl crystals and everything in between. It was a ball! I also attended dozens of mineral shows and swaps over the years, adding to my store of knowledge, and new specimens.

In the seventies, I started trading my extras and soon had many international penpals, who happily sent me theirs, thus adding to my growing collection. This process continues to this day and I have met and enjoyed the hospitality of many of these overseas friends. And I still add specimens every year from their generosity and friendship.

When I retired, I started buying and selling minerals (www.ConnRoxMinerals.com) mostly to keep current on the new finds, and to keep up my interest and, with the small profits, I was able to buy some pieces that I otherwise could not afford. I now have some 1700 pieces in the collection, some of which are shown here.

I hope that you enjoy looking at the results of these active years and get even some small awareness of the pleasure it has given me and my family.

I welcome  any comments and suggestions!
